History

The Cairo International Stadium is the first of its kind with Olympic standards in the Middle East and Africa. It is located in the Nasr City area of ​​northeast Cairo. It was designed by the German architect Werner Mars, the same architect who designed the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, 1936, completed in 1960 and inaugurated by the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser at the July Revolution celebrations of the same year. Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi held a meeting at the ministry's headquarters with members of the Egyptian Football Association's management committee to discuss preparations for the African Under-23 Championship, which qualifies for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The African Under-23 Championship is scheduled to be held at the Cairo and Peace stadium from 8-22 November. Subhi called during the meeting the need to make the organizers of the tournament every effort to bring it out in a way that befits Egypt's reputation and continental leadership and its global position, especially after the outstanding level and the unprecedented positive impact achieved by the great success of the organization of the African Nations Cup Egypt 2019.
