History

The Cairo International Stadium is the first of its kind with Olympic standards in the Middle East and Africa. It is located in the Nasr City area of ​​northeast Cairo. It was designed by the German architect Werner Mars, the same architect who designed the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, 1936, completed in 1960 and inaugurated by the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser at the July Revolution celebrations of the same year. Mr. Walid Abdel Wahab, Executive Director of the Cairo Stadium Authority, extends his sincere thanks to Mr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, for his continuous follow-up of the African Champions League and Confederation Cup matches at the stadium; and thanks to all those in charge and working at Cairo Stadium for their efforts during the previous two days in the matches: Zamalek in the Confederation Cup on Friday, and Al-Ahly in the African Champions League on Saturday. He also extends his thanks to both the Ministry of Interior and Tazkarti Company for their cooperation and efforts in these matches. And thanks to the African Company for securing the matches.
